Venturing to Vienna

Hallo aus Vien!

We started off the day with another Math lecture by the one and only Berliner. We learned about prime numbers and the random popping up of the geometric sequence which was quite interesting. However, many of us were excited to start exploring Vienna, Austria for the weekend and had a hard time focusing. After lunch and some cribbage, we walked over to Keleti Station to board our train to Vienna. We managed to navigate the station and then had a time and a half searching for open seats on the train.

Yay Math!

The train ride to Vienna gave us the opportunity to see the countryside of Hungary. We saw colorful graffiti, many wind farms, and some cozy towns. It took a little over two hours, and we were there!

Since we’ve conquered Budapest’s public transportation, we decided to take a stab at getting around Vienna via bus and metro. It took a few tries and the help of our German -> English translator (Olivia) but we think we’ve got it down. A group of us dropped our stuff off in our room for the night and went out to explore.

One group went and saw St. Stephen's Cathedral at night and also dined on some Austrian cuisine. The flaming candle was unavoidable at dinner, but added to the mood.

Others of us went to the highly recommended Schnitzelwirt 52 for dinner. We recommend it too, but you better come hungry! The portion sizes were huge! Once again, we had to rely on our translator (Olivia > Google Translate!!). We found out later that there was a menu in English. Whoops!
Schnitzel!
Translating the menu...

We wanted to conclude our dinner with ice cream. However, after going to 6 (no really, we walked like two miles doing this) CLOSED ice cream places, we gave up and met the group at the Wombat hostel. We mingled with some of our math friends along with some new friends who are also staying at the hostel.

Tomorrow we have a full day of adventuring ahead of us!

Signing off,

Jordan, Julia, and Skylar
